G E A R S #4. Charcoal, 2013. This image started as a film photograph—I shot these gears in a metal shop, as evening light billowed through the the greasy windows. After developing and printing the image in a traditional darkroom, I decided to enlarge the image in a drawing, and this is the finished piece.
As I was drawing, the words from Regina Spektor's Music Box came to mind: Life inside the music box ain't easy The mallets hit the gears are always turning And everyone inside the mechanism Is yearning To get out And sing another melody completely So different from the one they're always singing |
A brief survey of my recent artistic ramblings. P R O J E C T S
